Hetton New Dawn Project

Hetton & Eppleton Community Hall, Office Place, Hetton-le-Hole, DH5 9JG

Our Mission

Hetton New Dawn Group was established in January 2008 to support disadvantaged people in our community. One of the most financially deprived areas in Sunderland, the villages of Hetton, Easington Lane, Moorsley and Eppleton have higher than average unemployment, where poverty, disability and other issues, have led to high levels of ill health and social isolation, affecting many areas and sectors of our community.

How we do it

We support the community by running weekly lunch clubs for the elderly, Welcome Cafes to combat social isolation and poverty, a keep fit group, bingo club and a craft group to encourage the sharing of skills. Our monthly Transforming Lives groups brings together clients of all ages who enjoy an afternoon of social interaction. We work in partnership with a number of organisations and are supported by around thirty volunteers. The foodbank is held weekly and through this aspect of our work we are able to support those who are struggling financially through benefit or life changes.
